Apple AirTag 2

Apple is gearing up to launch the second generation of AirTag, expected around mid-next year. While the design will largely resemble the original, the new model is set to feature three significant improvements. This marks the first detailed insight into Apple's plans for AirTag 2, despite earlier mentions of its development.

Apple introduced the original AirTag in early 2021 after nearly two years of speculation fueled by leaks. References to its codename, B389, first appeared in iOS 13 back in 2019, along with multiple hints about the product's existence.

The upcoming AirTag model, codenamed B589, has reportedly advanced to manufacturing tests, indicating its release is approaching.

Three Notable Improvements for Apple AirTag 2

  1. Better range
  2. An upgraded wireless chip
  3. Enhanced privacy features
While the first two upgrades were expected, Apple’s focus on privacy is a welcome addition, addressing past concerns about misuse of the device.

The new AirTag is expected to include an upgraded chip that enhances location tracking capabilities, potentially featuring the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip introduced in the iPhone 15 lineup. Additionally, the built-in speaker is rumored to be more secure, making it harder to remove as a measure against misuse.

The design of the new model will likely remain similar to the current AirTag, with no significant visual changes anticipated. It will also offer "better range," which could enhance the Precision Finding feature by enabling it to function effectively over longer distances.

Wrap Up

Apple is also expected to introduce enhanced privacy features with the new AirTag, addressing concerns about misuse, including cases of stalking reported with the original model. While steps have already been taken to mitigate these issues, AirTag 2 aims to fully resolve such concerns with its improved design. These upgrades could lead to a slight price increase, which would align with Apple's typical approach to enhanced product iterations.

OpenAI Releases Expanded Model Specification Emphasizing Transparency and User Customization
OpenAI has unveiled a comprehensive update to its Model Spec, a document detailing the expected behaviour of its AI models. This expanded version, now 63 pages long compared to the previous 10, is available for free use and modification. It outlines guidelines on handling sensitive topics and user customisation, focusing on customisability, transparency, and "intellectual freedom."

The updated specifications focus on several key areas. Transparency is paramount, with OpenAI providing more detailed information about the model's training data, architecture, and limitations. This increased visibility aims to foster trust and understanding. Customizability is another core focus, allowing users to fine-tune model responses and tailor them to specific applications.

The expanded specifications outline guidelines for mitigating harmful or biased outputs, reflecting the company's commitment to responsible AI development. The challenge of "AI sycophancy," where models excessively agree with or flatter users, is also being tackled. OpenAI is implementing measures to encourage more objective and balanced responses.

Public feedback is a vital component of this process. OpenAI is actively soliciting input from users and the broader AI community to further refine its model specifications and address emerging concerns. Industry collaboration is also crucial, with OpenAI working with other organizations to establish best practices and promote responsible AI development.
