Apple is reportedly working on a software update to address issues with its AI-powered notification summaries, a feature introduced in recent iOS and iPadOS versions. Users have reported inconsistencies and inaccuracies in the summaries, leading Apple to prioritize a fix in an upcoming update. Check out all details about the Apple AI notification summaries here.

Apple announced it will enhance an AI feature that has provided erroneous news alerts on its newest iPhones, such as claiming that a man charged with murdering a US insurance executive had committed suicide and that tennis player Rafael Nadal had revealed he is gay. The technology firm stated it was working on a software update that would “better explain” when news alerts were indeed summaries produced by the company’s Apple Intelligence system. It stated that the update would be released in the weeks ahead.

This comes after a formal complaint filed by the BBC in December, when news alerts featuring the corporation’s logo informed certain iPhone users that Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson, had turned the gun on himself. Mangione is alive and is currently incarcerated in a prison located in Brooklyn.

Incorrect news alerts were released again last Friday when Apple's AI system incorrectly summarized notifications from the BBC app, stating that Nadal had publicly come out as gay. The summaries also stated that Luke Littler had secured victory in the PDC World Darts Championship shortly before the event commenced.

The defective function was one of the AI tools launched to users of certain newer iPhones in December, aimed at competing with an increasing number of tech companies and smartphone makers using generative AI in consumer services. The Apple feature has been made available to users of the iPhone 16, as well as the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, in addition to certain iPads and Macs.

Apple stated to the BBC, 'Apple Intelligence features are currently in beta, and we are constantly enhancing them based on user feedback.' It also said, "A software upgrade in the upcoming weeks will clarify when the text shown is a summary generated by Apple Intelligence." Apple stated, "We urge users to raise a concern if they notice an unusual notification summary."

Apple launched the new iOS 18.2.1 update this week to address certain bugs; however, it probably doesn’t resolve the AI notification problem.

The company also said the platform will showcase international premieres. Additionally, JioHotstar will also feature content from Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros., Discovery HBO, and Paramount.JioHotstar, the new streaming platform created by bringing together both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, was launched by JioStar on Friday. This new platform will have the complete content library of both the OTT platforms and more. Apart from all the movies and shows from the two entities, this new platform will also host content from different international studios and platforms. The JV has also announced a free tier for this streaming service. This JioStar joint venture was formed in November 2024 after the successful merger of Star India and Viacom18.

In the press release, JioStar announced the launch of the new JioHostar and also shared complimentary details about the new platform. The company mentioned that the said new platform will feature roughly 300,000 hours of content along with live sports coverage.

At the launch, the platform is said to have a total user base of more than 50 crore by combining the joint users on both platforms. However, what's not clear is whether the claimed number excludes the duplicate accounts (people with both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar accounts). The exciting part is that the new platform also gets a new logo, which can be the word JioHotstar and an asymmetrical seven-pointed star.

Another interesting part is that JioHotstar will be free to access and watch content for the time being. Users may not need a subscription to watch movies, shows, or even live sports. However, it is unclear if there would be a certain amount of content behind a paywall. The added that there are subscription plans for those “looking for an uninterrupted and enhanced experience.” This likely means that paying subscribers will not be shown ads, and they can stream the shows at a higher resolution.

Next, coming to the subscriptions, the existing subscribers of Disney+Hotstar and JioCinema will be automatically transitioned to the new platform. The company has also said that these users will be able to set up their JioHotsar subscriptions when they will be logging into the app for the first time. New subscribers can browse through the platform's new plans starting at Rs. 149.

JioStar will also be featuring content in 10 different Indian languages, panning across a wide range of content formats and genres. Viewers will also be able to watch anime, documentaries, moves, shows, live sporting events and more.
