Apple hosted its Worldwide Developers Conference i.e., WWDC 2024 on June 10 announcing as many as 13 big announcements. However, among all the major announcements, iOS 18 has grabbed all the eyeballs with the home screen overhaul, Apple intelligence and much more. Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event was hosted on Monday, wherein , the company has announced the new software updates including the latest iOS 18, iPados and macOS. The new updates are said to bring several new features and functionalities like the new Home Screen customisation options and the Apple intelligence. iOS 18 is also said to deliver new features that will be available on eligible iPhone models later this year. Additionally, the latest version of iOS will bring improved control centre options as well as support for controls from third party apps. Here are everything that you need to know.

Apple intelligence upgrade to Siri


Apple has announced that the new iOS 18 will add Apple intelligence to Siri making it more conversational. It will also get a new interface and app icon. With the latest update, the users will be able to ask Siri to type by using voice commands, depending on where they are. Siri will also set to get On-Screen Awareness features powered by Apple Intelligence. Notably, Apple Intelligence will be made available in beta form in English (US) and only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users will be able to access it.

Improvements to Message App


The iOS 18 will also bring update to the Message app including support for RCS messaging, text formatting, and more. The update will also enable users to use emoji in Tapback responses. Furthermore, the iOS 18 will bring ability to use satellite connectivity to send texts and emoji via the Messages app on an iPhone 14 and newer models in supported regions.

Improved Privacy Features


Apple has also announced to improve privacy features on iOS 18 including the ability to control how data is shared with apps. It will let users share specific contacts with apps instead of providing access to their entire contact list. Not only that users will also be able to lock certain apps from their home screen, preventing unauthorised access to the app without biometric authentication or the device's passcode.

Improved Control Center


According to the Apple, iOS 18 will also introduce support for third party controls in the Control Center. A controls gallery will also showcase all the available controls - including those from installed third party apps. Additionally, users will also be able to select custom layouts for these toggles on iOS 18.
Other customisation options are the ability to pick custom lock screen shortcuts or remove them. The shortcuts will also include options from the control gallery.

Apple's Dedicated Passwords App


Furthermore, Apple is also introducing a new dedicated Passwords app on iOS 18 alongside iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia and visionOS 2, as well as Windows computers. This app will enable users to access their passwords and edit them, view verification codes, and see weak passwords as well as those spotted in data leaks.

Which iPhones will get the iOS 18 upgrade?


Last but not least, iOS 18 will be available on the iPhone XR and newer models, up to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This means, the iPhones supporting the company's current generation iOS 17 will be able to update to the upcoming version later this year. Just like previous versions, certain iOS 18 features won't be available to the older models, according to the company.

Perplexity, an artificial intelligence startup has introduced its own AI assistant for Android devices, to compete directly with players like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Dubbed as Perplexity Assistant is now available for download on the Google Play Store in 15 different languages. The company has said that the newly launch AI assistant app will perform a variety of tasks within other apps on users' command. According to Perplexity AI, the newly launched AI assistant will do a variety of tasks like any other digital assistants. From making reservations, to booking rides, setting reminders, and more, it will let users streamline their work with just one command. With this Perplexity will become potential rival to the already-established AI assistants in the market like Apple's Siri, Alexa, ChatGPT and more. This San Francisco-based startup is backed by some of the top players of the industry including tech giant Nvidia and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The availability of app will also be expanded to iOS devices, once the developers get the necessary permissions from Apple. “If Apple gives us the right permissions, we’re ready to launch on iOS,” the company said.

Perplexity’s announcement comes just after OpenAI announced “Tasks” for its Team and Pro users on the web. The latter is said to improve users' experience by offering a more integrated and useful assistant experience.

Meanwhile, Apple and Amazon are also working on their respective voice assistants. Apple at its iPhone 16 launch event, announced a new version of Siri incorporating Apple Intelligence. They have also partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into their devices.

On the other hand, Amazon too is said to release a refreshed version of Alexa in the near future. CEO Andy Jassy has confirmed that the voice assistant will get an updated version in the coming months to compete in this rapidly evolving sector.

Samsung has launched the latest Galaxy S25 series 5G at its Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event held in San Jose. While the center stage has been taken by the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy AI, a new member to the series- Galaxy S25 Edge has also been announced at the event, bringing a culmination to months of rumours. The teased smartphone will join the Galaxy S25 lineup, comprising Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the rumors and reports have been suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could debut with the Galaxy S25 Slim moniker, but it seems like Samsung wants to bring back ‘Edge' branding instead.

The new handset has been shown to sport a slim form factor and what sets it apart from other models in Samsung's new flagship lineup is the camera setup. While all three handsets in the Galaxy S25 series packs a triple rear camera setup, the new Galaxy S25 Edge will come with a dual rear camera unit comprising two lenses positioned vertically at the back.

Notably, the phone hasn't join the Galaxy S25 series launch, instead it is likely to debut in May this year. Though the company hasn't revealed any features yet, the reports suggest that the new handset could get a 6.66-inch display, which should be similar to the Galaxy S25+ model. It is also said to sport a 6.4mm thin profile without the camera module, while it may measure 8.3mm in thickness around the camera unit.

For optics, it is likely to ship with a 200-megapixel primary sensor led dual rear camera setup. Other kleaked details suggest that the phone could pack a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for Galaxy, paired with 12GB of RAM. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge may run on Android 15-based One UI 7 out-of-the-box. In terms of pricing, it is rumored to be positioned between the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra.
