Alongside Apple iOS 18, Apple introduced the watchOS 11 at the WWDC 2024, the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference hosted on June 10. The software update will arrive to the compatible Apple watches later this year. It will bring a new Vitals app, that will read the users' workout strain, and offer better support during pregnancy. The update will also bring customisation on Apple Watch as the Photos watch face will add support for automatic composition using machine learning. Additionally, it will also support Check In and Translate, along with other AI powered features like summarised notifications. Do note that the latter will only be available when connected via an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.
At its WWDC 2024 keynote, the Cupertino based tech giant has unveiled the wathOS 11 wherein it introduces a new app called Vitals that will analyse health metrics collected by the wearable including breathing, hearth rate, sleep duration, and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels. The Vitals app will then notify users if the two or more metrics will show any changes. There will also be a new feature called Training Load for fitness enthusiasts that will showcase insights related to workout-induced strain over the past week, compared to the last month (28 days).
The company says that users will get "effort rating" after each workout. That's not all, Apple also announced that Fitness rings on the Apple Watch that will let users "pause" them and take a day, week, or month off training without affecting their award streaks. It will also be customisable.
Additionally, there is another new feature - Check In, introduced on the Messages app with iOS 17. It will be added to the Workout app on watchOS 11, enabling users to share their progress with friends or family. Another app coming to watchOS 11 is the Translate app offering translations for 20 languages.
Furthermore, watchOS 11 will also bring improved personalisation to the Apple Watch, as the Photos watch face. The company said that its wearables will use machine learning to identify the best images and composition to create a sense of depth with the time. A Dynamic mode will also arrive that will automatically switches to a new photo and layout when a user raises their wrist.
The new widgets will also be added on the Apple Watch with the upcoming watchOS 11 update. Other than these Live Activities for apps like Uber will also be supported. The Smart Stack feature is being upgraded with the ability to display widgets automatically, based on a user's location, the time, their routine, and other factors.
According to Apple, the watchOS 11 update will be made available later this year, on recent Apple Watch models. The users with an Apple Watch Series 6 and an iPhone XS or newer models will be able to update to watchOS 11 after the smartphone will get iOS 18 update.
