Perplexity, an artificial intelligence startup has introduced its own AI assistant for Android devices, to compete directly with players like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Dubbed as Perplexity Assistant is now available for download on the Google Play Store in 15 different languages. The company has said that the newly launch AI assistant app will perform a variety of tasks within other apps on users' command. According to Perplexity AI, the newly launched AI assistant will do a variety of tasks like any other digital assistants. From making reservations, to booking rides, setting reminders, and more, it will let users streamline their work with just one command. With this Perplexity will become potential rival to the already-established AI assistants in the market like Apple's Siri, Alexa, ChatGPT and more. This San Francisco-based startup is backed by some of the top players of the industry including tech giant Nvidia and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The availability of app will also be expanded to iOS devices, once the developers get the necessary permissions from Apple. “If Apple gives us the right permissions, we’re ready to launch on iOS,” the company said.

Perplexity’s announcement comes just after OpenAI announced “Tasks” for its Team and Pro users on the web. The latter is said to improve users' experience by offering a more integrated and useful assistant experience.

Meanwhile, Apple and Amazon are also working on their respective voice assistants. Apple at its iPhone 16 launch event, announced a new version of Siri incorporating Apple Intelligence. They have also partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into their devices.

On the other hand, Amazon too is said to release a refreshed version of Alexa in the near future. CEO Andy Jassy has confirmed that the voice assistant will get an updated version in the coming months to compete in this rapidly evolving sector.
